What to include in a DIARY ENTRY

  1. Start with “dear diary” (or other name)
  2. Write in the 1st person (I/my/me/myself etc.)
  3. Write in the past tense
  4. Include an introduction to set the scene (When I arrived, I saw… I felt…)
  5. Talk about opinions, thoughts and feelings (I thought to myself… This made me feel…
  6. Use time conjunctions to show when things happened (then, later on, afterwards, before etc.)
  7. Write about events that shocked or surprised you.
  8. Try to include reported speech. (She said to me that I was… He told me that she had been…)
  9. Include the Young Offenders Institution Vocabulary from the Quizlet list.
  10. Use the informal language and phrases we researched yesterday.
